The population of Pavoloch village, (Popilnia district, Zhytomyr region) suffered from Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933.

In July 1932, collective farmers were dissatisfied with their position and working conditions, as agents of the PSEA reported to the district party committee: “…Pavoloch village. “Red-October way” collective farm. The team went out into the field with reapers to collect sown herbs and let the reapers in the course that later were broken, as the metal rods were buried in the ground.”

The archives also contain the statements in 1933 of the collective farmers of the “Mayak” collective farm of Pavloch village: Vitvytskyi Pavlo, Nehelia Evdokia, Lapiia Oleksandr in the form of campaigning against the harvest campaign: “All the bread will be taken away from grain harvesting, and we will be hungry, it is better to sit, than to work in collective farm”.

Deaths from famine in 1932-1933 in Pavoloch village were buried, according to eyewitnesses and old-timers, on two cemeteries. The Holodomor witnesses exemplify the number of victims in Pavoloch village about 1300 people. Surnames of 102 persons have been established.

This mass burial place is located in the central cemetery, at a distance of 1.5 km to north from the village council, in the central part. A memorable oak cross was installed with a plate and inscription in 2006: “Passer-by, bow down to this place! There are rests the ashes of Pavoloch inhabitants, who were killed by starvation in 1932-1933 by Stalin’s castigators.”
