In 1933, four villages belonged to Zakharivka village council (Zakharivka, Mala Berezivka, Mederove, Lazaropil). According to local historian Oleksandr Oleksenko, on the village council terrotory, 700 people lived in 1932. During the Holodomor years, 428 people died.
The majority of the Holodomor victims in Zakharivka are buried in the mass grave at the old cemetery (as eyewitnesses say). The dead bodies of the Holodomor victims were carried away by special workers, who received food rations for doing this.
