The population of the village of Vesele, Veselivskyi district, Zaporizhia region, suffered from the Holodomor genocide of 1932–1933. Maria Kameneva, born in 1911, told that two of her neighbors died of starvation – Anna Ogurtsova and Vira Chepelieva. Every morning a man from the collective farm, who was given a cart, went from yard to yard and asked if there were any dead. If they were, they were loaded on a cart, taken to the cemetery and buried in a pit.
