The population of Varva urban-type settlement (Chernihivska region) suffered from Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. 447 persons died, all of them were identified. At the mass burial place, the reserve football pitch is located.
In 2008, in the center of the settlement, near the cemetery and the place of mass burial, the memorial cross was installed due to the initiative of the head of the local council Skudnyi Pavlo Mykolaiovych.
