The population of Khodorkiv village, (Popilnia district, Zhytomyr region) suffered from Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933.
In the report of Ukrkholgospcenter about the use of compulsory measures to the collective farms and collective farmers, dated no earlier than April 20, 1932, it was stated that two artels – Polish and Jewish – were poured with the Ukrainian commune in Khodorkiv village in Popilnia district. As a result, a number of abnormalities occurred, and Jews, with the exception of 4-5 families, left the commune.
In the minutes of the Poplinsky PKK Bureau meetings for 1933 (State Archives of Zhytomyr Oblast ( Region)), were found records on the consideration of the issue “On the suicide attempt of a teacher Kozytskyi of Khodorkiv Polish school”. In a note by the head of the DPU Perus was inscribed that one of the reasons for a suicide attempt of Kozytskyi was a difficult situation with family nutrition.
In the book “The land above Unava”, section “Collectivization and its consequences,” it is noted that in the village of Kotliarka there was a rumor that a cannibal will come to the village. People came up – really in a cage, like a beast at the zoo, was a resident of Khodorkiv Sukharskyi who had eaten his children.
According to eyewitnesses and old-timers of Khodorkiv village, the Holodomor victims of 1932-33 were mostly buried in a Russian cemetery, at a distance of 1.5 km from the village council, on the left side from the way to Skochyshche village of Brusyliv district. According to the memories of the old-timers, in Khodorkiv during Holodomor more than 1,000 people died of hunger. 109 surnames have been established. In the place of mass burial there is an increase in the soil and the stone cross boring in the ground. In 2008, the Memorial Sign and the Granite Cross were installed in the center of the cemetery.
