The population of Mankivka urban-type settlement (Cherkaska region) suffered from the Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine. According to the data of the letter of Kyiv Regional Department of State Political Directorate to the Head of State Political Directorate of the USSR from the 12th of March of 1933 (Central State Archive of Public Associations of Ukraine, Fonds No. 1, Series No. 101, Case No. 1281, Pages 42-48), during the two months of 1933 year, 30 people died. 23 of them were the collective farm members.
According to the memories of local citizen Ivan Prokopovych Khlebas, in May of 1933, 21 persons died in his family only. Along the street, where he lived, 68 people were killed by starvation in 1932-1933. Ivan Prokopovych adds, that in common pits about thousand people were buried.
At the cemetery, people killed by starvation were buried in the common pit.
