Mаtiushi

Bilotserkivskyi district

Kyivskа region

Victims: 1600

The population of Matiushi village (Bilotserkivskyi district, Kyivska region) suffered from Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933.

In 1925 the fellowship for the joint ground cultivation appeared in the village. In 1929 it was forced to turn into the collective farm named after Voroshilov. As a result, the peasants were “enslaved,” they were not interested in reaching better productivity of their work, the repressions intensified, the famine of 1932-1933 started.

There is no archival data about the number of the yards and the population of Matiushi in 1932-1933. From the information of the local church (the historical essay “Archangel Michael Parish of Matiushi village” written by V. Pererva), we have the data that before the Holodomor the population amounted 5000 people.

In 1930, two collective farms were created. Dekulakized people were exiled to Siberia. Their number and surnames are unknown.

The number of the dead during the Holodomor years is 1600 people.

In 1998, at two cemeteries, the memorial signs were opened over the mass graves of the Holodomor victims.
